Kaiapoi - Woodend

The right person, at the right time for the right reason

Why one of your votes should be for Shona Powell

Available and Accessible

Living locally you will see me at public drop-in sessions, public events and out and about. I’m happy for you to ring me or email me or chat with me when you see me. I will also set up times when you can easily connect with me in person.

Experience

Six years as a very effective community board chair, my work experience and self-employment, leadership skills and previous directorship of a financial organisation mean I am ready to step into the Council role straight away.

Commitment and Energy

My priority will be Council. My attendance record at community board meetings, briefings and public drop-in sessions is faultless.

Communication

The community needs information and I will set up ways online that will help keep you informed about what is happening at Council and meetings.

Talking with, and listening to as many people as possible is how I work. This means I can find out what the concerns and needs are and then look for positive solutions.

Strong Advocate

Recently I have advocated for issues including:

  • keeping chlorine out of drinking water as standard
  • safety improvements on SH1 at the Pineacres corner and through Woodend
  • flood protection
  • the Woodend Bypass
  • cycle/walkway between Kaiapoi and Woodend
  •  encouraging Environment Canterbury to make rate rises more affordable
  • speaking at the select committee hearing against the three waters reforms

Fresh Perspective

We are facing some serious issues like climate change, rapid growth, encouraging local employment opportunities, flooding, three waters and local government reforms. My fresh perspective is needed around the Council table to contribute and also influence others with what I learn from you.
